Siglufjörður is The Northernmost Town in Iceland. The town is known for its herring industry that bloomed in the 1940s and has now transformed into a charming little fishing village with its friendly locals. Siglufjörður enjoys a dramatic setting beside a small fjord at the northern tip of Tröllaskagi.

There is a wide range of hiking trails in Siglufjörður and its surroundings. The popular hike over the passes of Hólsskarð and Hestsskarð to the beautiful fjord of Héðinsfjörður. There are two swimming pools in the area. Siglufjörður has an indoor swimming pool with an outdoor hot tub. Ólafsfjörður (15 km) offers an outdoor swimming pool with jacuzzi, a children pool, two slides and a steam bath.

Siglufjörður Golf club is located at Hóll just outside the center of town. It is a 9-hole golf course located in a beautiful area with beautiful view over the fjord.
Characteristic of Siglufjördur is the extensive and varied birdlife all year round. Some 2000 birds, of 16-18 different species are usually found in Siglufjördur and there is an increasing number of species that attempt to nest in the area.

The best way to get here is by renting a car, bus from Reykjavik or flight to Akureyri and bus from there.
