About the Herring House

The Herring House Guesthouse offers quiet and cosy accommodation in Siglufjörður, the northernmost town in Iceland. At Siglufjörður you can enjoy peace and quiet in a comfortable environment with a breathtaking view.

The Herring House offers four bedrooms with shared facilities as well as two cozy cabins with a private bathroom, outdoor shower, and a small kitchen. All our guests are welcome to use our outdoor shower in the refreshing Icelandic air and enjoy a relaxing time in our hot tub. The guesthouse has a beautiful garden, a terrace and a great view over the town square and surrounding mountains. It is located next to the Church in town and only a two-minute walk down to the city centre.

Enjoy the afternoon sitting on the terrace gazing at the spectacular mountains and the midnight sun during the summer time. And for winter visitors, Siglufjörður is the ideal location for viewing the northern lights, enjoy winter sports and family vacations.

Exceptional

This was my second visit at Herring House – and as delightful as ever. The accommodations are spotless (especially the shared bathroom) and the kitchen very well appointed. The hosts are available and friendly – and the breakfast was amazing!!! It was a delight and a pleasure to return and I look forward to my next stay!

Best place we had in Iceland.

Beautiful view of the peaks and the town church from our window! Lovely homey environment, with books and paintings that really made the atmosphere cosy and nice. The place was clean and the owner really nice – I had forgotten my jacket and he called the bakery in town to find me and let me know I could still fetch it – at 8 am!!

Fabulous hosts, super clean property, great breakfast with an fantasizing view. Must do: visiting the amazing troll in the garden.

Welcoming hostess for a wonderful visit

We stayed in the private cabin for two nights and found it to be more than we expected. lovely setting, quiet, roomy, fully equipped with modern decor and appliances. our hostess, Helga, was always available to answer questions regarding Iceland in general, and to suggest things for us to do. Siglufjörður is a small town but has everything a visitor would require (museums, restaurants, grocery store, even a free carwash).

Great value for money.Owners could not have been more helpful Breakfast not included but worth paying the extra for.Room and bathroom were spotlessly clean and roomy. Can not recommend highly enough.

Cozy place with a great view of the town.

The place was super clean, the dorm was cosy and with a beautiful view of the town. Most places were at walking distance such as the supermarket, the bakery and the restaurant, Our host made several calls to help us get food as we arrived on Good Friday and almost everything was closed, that was a great help for us. The town is small but lovely and vivid, with live music and delicious food, Torgid restaurant was impressive, local food there was awesome!

Location

Siglufjörður – The northernmost town in Iceland

Siglufjörður is known for its herring industry that bloomed in the 1940s and has now transformed into a charming little fishing village with its friendly locals. The town enjoys a dramatic setting beside a small fjord at the northern tip of the Troll Peninsula, Tröllaskagi.

The town was connected with a road for the first time in 1940 when the horse riding trail through Siglufjarðarskarð was improved and enabled cars to get through. Before. ships, seaplanes, horses and strong legs were the only ways to reach Siglufjörður.

The town itself is scenic, quiet and charming and, today, Siglufjörður offers a great variety of activities and leisure opportunities for all travellers.
